The City of Moscow and the Moscow Arts Commission are set to launch the 16th annual Palouse Plein Air exhibition on Thursday, September 18, at 5:00 pm. The event will take place at the Third Street Gallery located within Moscow City Hall.
This year, seventy-one artists from the region have registered to create their paintings on-site, capturing various locations throughout Latah, Nez Perce, Whitman, and Benewah counties between September 8 and 16. The exhibition will be juried by George Scribner, who will assess all artwork submissions prior to the opening.
An artist reception will be held on September 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, during which awards will be announced. Refreshments will be provided by Wilder Catering and Sisters Cookies.
The exhibition will be available for viewing until October 3 at the Third Street Gallery, located at 206 E. Third Street. The gallery will be open to the public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.
Plein air painting, a term derived from French meaning “open air,” refers to the practice of painting outdoors. This annual event highlights the connection between artists and the diverse landscapes of the Palouse region, including its hills, rivers, mountains, fields, and farms, which reflect local culture and heritage.
