A 28-year-old man from Pullman was arrested on multiple charges following a domestic violence incident and standoff on Sunnyside Hill on Sunday.
Pullman Police responded to a dispute at a residence on Monta Vista Circle around 10:30 AM. Officers reported that Jayson Kramlich had allegedly assaulted family members and threatened them while armed with a knife. The victims managed to exit the house, but Kramlich barricaded himself inside and reportedly claimed to have a shotgun while threatening officers.
The Whitman County Regional SWAT Team was called in, and a negotiator attempted to persuade Kramlich to surrender. After communication ceased, SWAT officers entered the home and deployed a drone. Kramlich then exited the house, allegedly assaulted an officer, and was swiftly taken into custody. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by the Pullman Fire Department, while one officer also sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
Kramlich faces several charges, including felony harassment, misdemeanor domestic violence assault, intimidating a public servant, and resisting arrest.
Pullman Police Chief Aaron Breshears expressed gratitude towards the sheriff’s office and Washington State University Police for their assistance during the incident.
The Kramlich family reached out to Pullman Radio News, stating that Jayson was experiencing a mental health crisis and has had a history of mental health treatment. They described the incident as involving Kramlich slapping his father twice and expressed disappointment with the police and SWAT response, advocating for mental health treatment for Kramlich rather than incarceration.
