Candidate filing concluded on Friday in Idaho, leading to several contested races this fall.
In Moscow, three candidates are vying to replace Art Bettge as Mayor, who is not seeking re-election. The candidates include Councilwomen Hailey Lewis and Julia Parker, along with newcomer Alex Simon. Additionally, there are nine candidates competing for three Moscow City Council seats, with Ben Stellmon being the latest to file his candidacy. He joins Councilwoman Gina Taruscio and newcomers Sage McCetich, Evan Holmes, R. Paul Fender, Scott Sumner, Stephen Bonnar, John Slagboom, and Gary Schoolland in this race.
The Moscow School Board will also feature a contested race, as Kenan Lauder has filed to challenge incumbents Kenneth Faunce and Brian Kennedy for two available seats in the November election.
The Moscow Cemetery District faces competition as Bill Twigg, Cindy Tubb, Cheyenne Stooks, and Bethanne Broux are all running for two seats.
In contrast, there were no filings for a seat on the Moscow Rural Fire District Board, which is set for a vote this fall.
Juliaetta is shaping up to be competitive, with seven candidates running for four city council seats. In Kendrick, Mike Towne and Rosanne Norris are competing for the mayoral position. Potlatch City Council will also see contested races, while in Troy, Bill Abbott and Daniel Namahoe are running for mayor, and seven candidates are pursuing two city council seats. Contested races are also present for the Bovill Fire Protection District and Deary City Council.
Several positions remain unfilled as no candidates have filed for those roles. Notably, there were no filings for the Mayor of Genesee, and two city council seats are still vacant. Additionally, there is an empty seat on the Genesee School Board, along with positions in the recreation district, cemetery district, and fire district.
