A fatal crash occurred in North Whitman County Saturday afternoon, resulting in the death of a 50-year-old woman from St. John and injuries to three others.

According to Whitman County Sheriff’s Deputies, the incident took place on Thorn Creek Road, just north of St. John, around 4:30 PM. Reports indicate that a 76-year-old woman, Teresa Leas, was driving an SUV westbound when she lost control and struck a culvert, causing the vehicle to become airborne.

One of the passengers, Sonia Leas, was critically injured and subsequently died while being transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Two other passengers, Richard Leas and Austin Coniber, sustained minor injuries and were treated at Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics in Colfax before being released.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
