Voting in Pullman’s primary election is currently in progress. The Whitman County Auditor’s Office has distributed mail-in ballots for the primary scheduled on August 5th, which includes 22 candidates running for positions on the Pullman City Council and school board.
For the open seat in city council Ward 1, the candidates are Bobbi Bennett-Wolcott, John-Mark Mahnkey, Cindy Kothandaraman, James Pitzer, Holly Greystone, Randy Cross, and Bryan MacDonald. In the council primary for the open Ward 3 seat, the candidates include Karl Olsen, Frederico Bartolo III, John Casselman, Collin Bannister, Dave Gibney, V. Shae Ortega, and Tawny Szumlas. In the Pullman School Board Trustee race, incumbent Amanda Tanner is facing challengers Brandon Kruger, Teena Edwards, and Stephanie Horn, while the open school board seat features candidates Deena Bayoumi, Hannah Martian, and Ben Emerson.
Additionally, in Whitman County, the primary for county commissioner District 3 includes three Republican candidates: recently appointed Commissioner Chad Whetzel, Tucker Senter, and Cody Finch. There is also a primary election for the Tekoa City Council.
The top two vote-getters from the primary elections will move forward to the general election in November.
On the ballot, there is a levy for the Lamont School District, and voters in Farmington will be considering a street levy.
To ensure that ballots are counted, they must be returned to the auditor’s office postmarked by election day, August 5th. Voters may also drop off their ballots in designated boxes in Pullman and Colfax by 8:00 p.m. on election night.
