The University of Idaho has been awarded a federal grant of 1.4 million dollars from the National Science Foundation for research focused on wildfires. This grant will fund the hiring of nine doctoral-level researchers over a span of three years. The funding will facilitate research in areas including wildfire physics, mitigation strategies, and forest regeneration.
Additionally, the university has a facility known as the Ember Generator, which is part of the College of Natural Resources. This equipment is utilized to simulate wildfire conditions, enabling the study of ember-propagated wildfires.
