The swimming hole on the Palouse River at Laird Park, located north of Harvard, has reopened after being closed for two years. The U.S. Forest Service closed the swimming hole last summer due to necessary repairs on a small dam that was originally constructed in the 1930s.
Local photojournalist Brett Hogaboam has reported that the repairs to the dam were completed on Tuesday, thanks to the efforts of rangers, the Youth Conservation Corps, and volunteers from the Boy Scouts Camp Grizzly. Following the repairs, it took a couple of days for the swimming hole to fill up. It is important to note that walking on top of the dam is prohibited.
