Fire crews are making progress on the Central Ferry wildfire, which is burning to the south of Dusty in Whitman County. The wildfire is currently reported to be 40% contained, affecting an area of 6,600 acres. The increase in total acreage is attributed to improved mapping rather than actual fire growth. Crews are actively addressing hotspots, and a fire trail has been established around the perimeter of the blaze. The fire started on Wednesday under high wind conditions, initially spreading to over 6,000 acres after an old motorhome caught fire while traveling up the State Route 127 grade from Central Ferry along the Snake River. All evacuation notices in the area have now been lifted.
