The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is set to reopen recreational sites along the Lower Snake River that had been closed during the summer due to staffing shortages.

In April, the federal agency closed several river sites because of a lack of park rangers. However, recent adjustments in staffing levels now permit the reopening of these sites.

Blyton Landing in Southern Whitman County will reopen this Friday, coinciding with the upcoming Labor Day weekend. The Illia Dunes, a popular location for Washington State University students, is scheduled to reopen after the holiday weekend, specifically on September 19th. Additionally, Riparia in Whitman County, located south of LaCrosse below Little Goose Dam, will also reopen on the same date.
