A timber fire occurred along Union Flat Creek near Klemgard Park in Whitman County on Saturday, affecting approximately 40 acres. The fire was reported around 4:30 PM, located near Upper Union Flat Road and Hamilton Hill Road. Fortunately, no structures were damaged. A helicopter was deployed to assist in extinguishing the flames with water drops. Volunteer firefighters from Albion, Colfax, Steptoe, Pullman, Onecho, and Palouse participated in fighting the fire, with additional support from the City of Pullman firefighters. Fire crews conducted mop-up operations on Sunday.
