The White Pine Fire in North Latah County has grown to over one thousand acres and is currently at 10% containment.

The U.S. Forest Service is expending approximately one million dollars daily to manage the situation, with the total cost of firefighting efforts reaching nearly five million dollars. The containment percentage has not changed this week. Officials report that recent rainfall is providing some assistance to fire crews. Over 400 firefighters are now assigned to combat the fire, which is located north of Harvard and east of State Highway 6, near the Giant White Pine Campground. The USFS plans to expand closure areas around the affected region.
