Steelhead Americas, a company based in Portland, is planning to host a public information session regarding their proposal to build a wind farm near Kamiak Butte, north of Pullman. The project involves the construction of 45 wind turbines on land leased from private property owners in proximity to a National Natural Landmark. The proposal has faced significant opposition from local residents, including a coalition known as Save the Palouse, which submitted a petition with over 3,500 signatures to the Whitman County Commissioners last month. In response, the commissioners enacted a six-month moratorium on new wind turbine projects to allow for the updating of county regulations related to wind farms.
The information session organized by Steelhead Americas will take place at Washington State University on Tuesday night, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Lewis Alumni Centre. Individuals interested in attending are required to RSVP through the provided link.
Company representatives have indicated that they are seeking community input to help shape the project to better align with local values and needs. This session marks the second time the company has sought public engagement on their proposal, following earlier sessions held last July, where they addressed questions and shared visual simulations of the project.
