Steptoe Butte State Park, located north of Colfax, is expected to reopen in late October following an extended closure. The park has been closed for most of the year due to damage caused by a flood in February. Originally, the Washington State Parks Department planned to close the park from late May through October for a paving project. As a result of the flood damage, the closure was extended. Crews have been working for several months to repave the road leading to the top of the butte. Although officials have indicated that the park should reopen in late October, a specific date for the reopening has not yet been announced.
