Firefighters are reporting progress in their efforts to control the White Pine Fire in North Latah County. The containment percentage of the fire has increased to 54%, marking a notable rise over the weekend. The fire has burned approximately 1,045 acres since it began last month, and the cause of the fire has not been disclosed. As containment efforts continue, crews and equipment are beginning to demobilize from the fire lines. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest within the affected area remains closed to the public. The U.S. Forest Service has allocated nearly $13 million to manage the White Pine Fire.
