The University of Idaho Extension is offering a free virtual workshop on farm succession planning, scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, and Friday, October 3, from 12:00 – 1:30 pm PT. This workshop is designed for current landowners and those entering the farming industry.
The sessions will be led by Colette DePhelps, an area Extension educator focused on community food systems. Participants will learn about the process of transferring a farm or ranch, whether it is within a family or to external parties.
The first session will emphasize the importance of clarifying values, vision, and goals related to farm succession. The second session will address financial assessments and the identification of professional service providers that can assist in the succession process.
Topics will include evaluating current financial positions, anticipating future needs, and utilizing available resources to create a succession plan. Both sessions will be recorded and made accessible to all who register.
Colette DePhelps has credentials as an American Farmland Trust Land Access trainer and serves as a farm succession coordinator for the International Farm Transition Network. This workshop is supported by programs such as UI Extension’s Cultivating Success and Idaho Women in Ag.
