The University of Idaho is set to host the 2025 Borah Symposium from September 29 to October 1, focusing on strategies for peace and stability in the context of global tensions, under the theme “Great Power Competition.”
K.T. McFarland, who previously served as deputy national security advisor during the Trump administration, will deliver the closing keynote address on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The plenary keynote speaker, Esther D. Brimmer, who held the position of assistant secretary of state during the Obama administration and is currently a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, will present on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
The symposium aims to explore how the interactions among major world powers influence international conflict and the potential for stability.
Scheduled events include a panel discussion on the impact of trade wars on agricultural commodities on Monday, and a colloquium addressing great power competition in the Middle East on Tuesday.
