Steptoe Butte State Park, located north of Colfax, is slated to reopen on December 29th after being closed since February due to flooding. The Washington State Parks Department had kept the site closed pending necessary repaving work, which commenced in the spring. The repaving of the road leading to the summit was impacted by a late summer strike by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302, causing delays in the project. The park was originally expected to reopen earlier this month.
