Moscow Mayor Art Bettge has announced the recipients of the Ismat Ara and Abdul Mannan Sheikh Community Unity Award, selecting Lee Anne Eareckson and Linda Pike based on recommendations from the Moscow Human Rights Commission.
A ceremony in recognition of both women is scheduled for Thursday, November 6, at 7:00 pm in the Moscow City Council Chambers.
Lee Anne Eareckson has been a teacher of French and Biology at Moscow High School since 1987 and founded Conservation Opportunities, Inc., a nonprofit organization that supports conservation service projects for students. She has also actively participated on the Latah County Human Rights Task Force and other community boards.
Linda Pike holds a law degree from the University of Idaho and has worked as a State of Idaho Administrative Tax Judge. She is the founder of the Third Street Pedestrian Bridge Project and has been involved with the League of Women Voters, the Intermountain Fair Housing Council, and Moscow’s Fair and Affordable Housing Commission.
The biennial award recognizes Moscow citizens who have made significant contributions to community unity, diversity, and human rights, honoring the legacy of Ismat Ara and Abdul Mannan Sheikh.
