Washington State University is proposing an increase in tuition for the 2026-2027 academic year, potentially raising in-state undergraduate tuition by approximately $400 to over $12,000. This proposal will be reviewed by the WSU Regents during their upcoming meeting next Friday in Seattle.

State law limits annual tuition increases at public institutions to the average annual percentage rise in Washington’s median hourly wage, with the current cap set at 3.3%. The WSU administration has requested that the Regents approve a tuition hike at this maximum rate. Over the past nine years, WSU has implemented maximum tuition increases six times, with the most recent hikes being 3% for 2024-2025 and 3.3% for the current academic year.

Currently, WSU has the highest annual tuition and fees in Washington, totaling nearly $14,000 for the current academic year. The Regents’ decision on this proposal will be made during their meeting next week.
