The University of Idaho Dance Program will showcase the UIdaho Dance Ensemble in the production titled “Uncharted,” scheduled for 7:30 pm on November 20 and 21 at the Hartung Theater. The performance will include new choreography from faculty members Colleen Bialas, Melanie Meenan, and Rhea Speights, as well as a piece by guest artist Samuel Hobbs.
This concert commemorates 115 years of dance courses at the University of Idaho (U of I) and more than 50 years of offering a dance degree. Samuel Hobbs, who is the artistic director of the Portland-based dance company Push/Fold, has restaged his work titled “Ozymandias” during his weeklong residency at the university.
Meenan, the founding artistic director of UIDE, stated, “While the map of each work becomes clearer with each rehearsal, the actual performance is dependent on the dancers’ commitment to being present with the realities of live performance. ‘Uncharted’ provides audiences the opportunity to chart their own meaning through considering the imagery and metaphor that results from the blending of dance movement, sound scores, and theatrical lighting.”
Included in the faculty creations is Speights’ trio “Anam Cara,” which explores the Celtic concept of a “soul friend,” along with her restaged solo performance “This Place” from 2008, which has received national recognition.
Tickets for the performances are priced between $10 to $18 and can be purchased at uitickets.com.
