Steptoe Butte State Park, located north of Colfax, will remain closed for most of this year. The closure, which began in late February due to flooding that caused several washouts, will extend as the Washington State Parks Department plans to repave the road to the summit starting in late May or early June. This paving project will require a four-month closure of the park. For safety reasons, officials have opted to keep the park closed prior to the paving work. The project is expected to be completed by October, allowing for the park’s reopening. Additionally, state parks officials have indicated that the bathrooms at the summit will be removed as part of the paving work, a change that was planned for last year but has been postponed to this summer.
