Acting Pullman Police Chief Aaron Breshears has been nominated by Pullman Mayor Francis Benjamin to take over the role permanently. The Pullman City Council is set to consider this nomination during their meeting on Tuesday night.

Breshears has served as acting chief since former chief Jake Opgenorth was placed on leave in December due to an ongoing investigation by the Washington State Patrol. The specifics of the investigation have not been disclosed, but it is connected to a civil dispute that received public attention in court involving Opgenorth and a former acquaintance. This civil case was ultimately dismissed by a judge. Opgenorth resigned from his position last week.

Prior to his appointment as acting chief, Breshears held the position of Pullman Police Commander and has been with the department since 1999.
