Crews are nearing completion of the downtown Pullman reconstruction project after spending three weeks addressing tasks that were not finished during last year’s construction phase. The finishing work resumed this month following a winter shutdown.
Several punch list items remain, including the installation of light pole banner arms, which are anticipated to occur this week. The completion of the remaining tasks is not expected to disrupt traffic on Main Street in downtown Pullman. Last week, crews addressed issues with a new catch basin that had been installed the previous year and required modifications.
The City of Pullman is utilizing 9 million dollars in federal COVID relief funds for the project, which includes the reconstruction of Main Street, upgrades to underground utilities, and the installation of new sidewalks. Main Street was closed to traffic for over seven months last year, exceeding the initial four-month closure estimate. The project is currently running significantly over budget, with total costs around 12.5 million dollars.
