The first forecast for this year’s winter wheat harvest has been released by the National Agricultural Statistics Service, based on May 1st field conditions. In Washington, growers have increased their winter wheat acreage to 1.8 million acres compared to last year. The predicted yield for the state is 71 bushels per acre, which is an increase from the previous year. The total winter wheat production in Washington is estimated to be nearly 128 million bushels.

In Idaho, the acreage for winter wheat has also increased, reaching 720,000 acres this year. The forecasted yield stands at 97 bushels per acre, up eight bushels from last year, resulting in an expected production of nearly 70 million bushels.

On a national level, the winter wheat forecast indicates a 2% increase in production compared to 2024.
