As the summer travel season approaches, Washington state agencies are emphasizing the importance of securing loads while driving, launching the Secure Your Load for Safer Roads Campaign.

Last year, unsecured loads contributed to 337 crashes in Washington, highlighting the risks posed to drivers. Furthermore, debris falling from vehicles is a significant environmental issue, with 40% of roadway litter originating from unsecured items.

The campaign, now in its fifth year, kicks off on June 6, accompanied by increased patrols from Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers to ensure that cargo is properly secured before travel.

In addition, the Washington State Department of Ecology will provide free cargo nets and ratchet straps at community events in Whitman County during the summer to assist drivers in securing their loads.
