Avista Utilities has proposed new rate adjustments for electricity and natural gas services for its North Idaho customers. The Spokane-based utility has submitted a settlement request to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission, seeking to revise its previous proposal that included a combined 20% increase in power rates over the next 14 months, along with a $10 increase in the monthly basic charge.

Under the new proposal, Avista is requesting approval for a 6% increase in electric rates starting in September, followed by an additional increase of 4.5% in September of the following year. The utility has also eliminated its request for a hike in the monthly basic charge. For natural gas, Avista now seeks to increase rates by 9% this September, with a further 0.4% increase anticipated in September 2026.

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission will be accepting public comments on Avista’s revised request during a telephone hearing scheduled for Thursday at noon. The hearing will continue until all customer comments have been addressed. Interested participants can join the call by dialing 1-415-655-0001 and entering the meeting number 2861 516 9950 by 11:55 a.m. on Thursday.
