The Gladish Community and Cultural Center in Pullman is being put up for sale as the nonprofit organization that owns it seeks a buyer committed to preserving the facility as a community space.
The Friends of the Gladish Board has made the decision to sell the historic building due to the high costs associated with operating the aging facility. In December, the board announced a financial crisis that put the future of The Gladish at risk following the loss of a major tenant. In response, they initiated the Save the Gladish campaign in May, with a goal of raising one million dollars for repairs and ongoing operations.
A press release from the Gladish Board indicated that the monthly costs to keep the center open often exceed $40,000. Additionally, the loss of other major tenants has led to a significant decline in revenue. The board is now seeking a qualified buyer who will maintain the historic integrity of the building, honor existing leases, and lease back the performing arts and event spaces to the Friends of Gladish. In collaboration with a real estate broker, the nonprofit aims to find a suitable buyer who can help preserve the community center.
This transition is expected to take time, and the Friends of Gladish continue to seek donations to support the center’s operations. Donations can be made at https://gladishcommunity.org/donate.
The Gladish Community and Cultural Center, nearly 100 years old, was formerly Pullman High School from 1929 to 1972 and currently hosts various community events, nonprofit offices, and small businesses.
