This summer, the local volunteer fire department in Colton/Uniontown will expand the annual burn ban along the Snake River in Southern Whitman County.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers implements a burn ban each year from June 10th to October 10th along the river. In addition, Whitman County Fire District 14 will enforce a similar burn ban in the adjacent areas during this timeframe. As a result, burning will be prohibited in the Snake River Canyon between the breaks and Wawawai Road, extending from Wawawai Landing to the state line.
