Join Walter Fertig, collections manager at the WSU Marion Ownbey Herbarium, and Erica Crespi, director of the WSU Hudson Biological Reserve, for a botanical walk at the Rose Creek Nature Preserve at 9:00 am on May 24. The walk will highlight various plants native to the area.
Registration is now open for the summer camp lineup from the Moscow Contemporary Summer Arts Program. These camps invite kids ages 4-13 to participate in various activities and explore the natural beauty of the Palouse. This year’s camps include Myths & Legends, Animal Dances in the Wild, and more.
The Memorial Day holiday weekend is expected to see increased traffic. Highway construction in Washington will be paused for the duration of the weekend, with no work scheduled for Friday and Monday. This includes the I-90 Vantage Bridge over the Columbia River in Central Washington. All four lanes will be open for travel.
Memorial Day ceremonies are scheduled in several communities in Whitman County on Monday morning. A ceremony will take place at the VFW Memorial in Colfax at 10:00 AM. The Garfield ceremony is set for 11:00 AM at the local cemetery. Additionally, the Colton/Uniontown ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM at the Colton cemetery.
Washington State University will host a wreath-laying ceremony on campus in recognition of Memorial Day on Friday morning. The ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 AM at the Veteran’s Memorial on campus.
