The Palouse Discovery Science Center is hosting a Family Science night on Thursday, May 1. This month’s theme, “Grow Your Green,” focuses on science exploration and financial literacy activities suitable for all ages. The event will allow families to explore the science center, enjoy giveaways, and participate in various activities.
The Pullman School Board voted Wednesday night not to reconsider the elimination of the high school athletics and activities director position. The decision followed a presentation of support for AD Wendy Kruger. Pullman Schools Superintendent Dr. Bob Maxwell had previously informed PHS staff about the board’s decision.
Researchers at Washington State University are seeking community volunteers aged 60 and older to participate in a spicy beverage panel. Participants should be English speakers, have no food allergies, live independently or unassisted, and be able to complete an online questionnaire. Additionally, participants must be available for a 4-hour in-person evaluation.
Traffic delays are expected on State Route 26 near Washtucna for several weeks beginning Thursday. The Washington State Department of Transportation will be resurfacing the concrete deck on the bridge just east of Washtucna. Traffic will be limited to one lane over the bridge, with control managed by temporary traffic lights.
Graduation weekend is approaching at Washington State University, with over 2,400 students from Pullman earning their degrees. Three commencement ceremonies will take place at Beasley Coliseum on Saturday, scheduled for 8:00 AM, noon, and 3:30 PM. The final ceremony will feature guest speaker Jamie Kern Lima, a member of the WSU alumni.
The rail line in North Latah County has new ownership, with Bennett Lumber acquiring the section between the state line and their mill near Princeton. The timber company has engaged a contractor to refurbish the rail. There have been reports of individuals removing what seem to be old railroad ties from the area.
FEMA has rescheduled the local public workshops regarding the new floodplain map for Whitman County. The workshops were originally planned for February but were postponed due to travel restrictions. The Pullman workshop will now take place on Thursday night at 6:00 inside city hall.
