Bryan Kohberger has received a life sentence for the killings of four University of Idaho students at a rental property in Moscow in November 2022.
On Wednesday morning, Judge Steven Hippler in Boise pronounced the sentence, which consists of four consecutive life sentences. This outcome was part of a plea agreement, in which Kohberger acknowledged his role in the deaths of the students to avoid facing the death penalty during a potential trial. The terms of the agreement also preclude Kohberger from appealing the conviction and eliminate any future possibility of parole.
During the sentencing hearing, several family members and friends of the victims provided testimonies regarding the impact of the crimes.
Kohberger was found guilty of fatally stabbing Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin in the early hours of November 13, 2022. At the time of the incident, he was a criminal justice graduate student residing in Pullman, Washington. His arrest followed a comprehensive investigation, leading to his apprehension at his parents’ home in Pennsylvania in late December 2022.
