Bryan MacDonald and Tawny Szumlas have secured seats on the Pullman City Council following the counting of additional ballots from Tuesday’s vote-by-mail election by the auditor’s office on Friday. Both candidates have increased their election night leads by one percentage point, bringing their total to 54%.
In another election outcome, appointed Whitman County Commissioner Chad Whetzel is leading the only countywide race this fall by approximately 500 votes.
There are two contested races in rural Whitman County that are currently tied. In the Malden Mayor’s race, candidates Larry Frick and Diana Totten have each garnered 34 votes. Similarly, the LaCrosse Town Council race remains tied with Desiree Chappell and Shawn Mills each receiving 52 votes.
Most of the small taxing district levies in Whitman County are on track to pass. Notably, the LaCrosse Parks and Recreation District levy was previously failing on election night but has since shifted to passing. Conversely, the Tekoa street levy, which was passing on election night, is now experiencing a slight decline. Both the Farmington Street levy and the St. John splash pad levy are still short of achieving the 60% supermajority required for approval.
The Whitman County Auditor’s Office reported that approximately 3,500 ballots were counted on Friday, with an estimated 100 ballots remaining to be counted. Final tabulation of these ballots is scheduled for certification day on November 25th.
