The Cherry Fire located north of Deary has expanded to approximately 50 acres as of this morning. The fire was first reported at around 9:00 PM on Monday. Fire crews from the Idaho Department of Lands have been actively working to contain the blaze throughout the night. The fire is situated in areas of active logging that have significant amounts of slash present. Currently, around 70 firefighters are engaged in firefighting efforts, utilizing a helicopter, bulldozers, and six fire engines. Additional resources, including two helicopters and seven planes (one of which is a large air tanker), have been requested to assist in battling the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

As per an update from the Latah County Sheriff’s office, there are currently no evacuation orders in effect.
