The City of Moscow and the Moscow Arts Commission have announced the selection of Miriam Akervall as the 2025 – 2027 Moscow Poet Laureate. Akervall will be the city’s fourth poet laureate.

A poet and translator, Akervall has published work in notable literary journals, including Colorado Review, Black Warrior Review, and The Greensboro Review. Her translation of “Astrakanerna” (The Garden of the Dead) by Marie Lundquist earned an honorable mention in the 2024 Nadia Christensen Translation Prize and will be published by Ugly Duckling Presse.

The selection process included an open call for submissions aimed at published poets living in Moscow. Akervall’s tenure as poet laureate will last until September 2027, during which she will collaborate with the Moscow Arts Commission to organize readings and literary events.
