Issues with the permitting of events for the City of Pullman’s Pine Street Plaza downtown have been resolved.
The problem came to light when the Pullman Chamber of Commerce announced the cancellation of their 3rd Annual 3 Forks River & Arts Festival, which was scheduled for next month, due to the lack of approval for their permit to use the park.
City spokeswoman Meghan Ferrin informed Pullman Radio News that the permitting issue has been addressed. She noted that the Washington State Recreation Conservation Office authorized the city to allow conditionally permitted uses in Pine Street Plaza. This authorization is related to a state grant the city received approximately 25 years ago for the construction of the park, Riverwalk, and the Pine Street pedestrian bridge. Ferrin stated that the city’s attorney permitted staff to start accepting permit applications for the plaza on Monday.
On Tuesday, the chamber announced the festival’s cancellation, which was also influenced by the closure of the footbridge that was damaged during February’s flood.
