The Coleman Oil Company has been fined $12,000 for failing to notify the Washington Department of Ecology promptly about a spill resulting from a tanker crash.
The incident took place in January 2023 when a Coleman tanker driver crashed south of Colfax on U.S. Highway 195, leading to the spill of over 2,000 gallons of gas and diesel. This spill contaminated a ditch that flows into Spring Flat Creek. Crews were deployed to clean up the spill and remove oil-saturated soil. The Department of Ecology announced that the fine was imposed due to Coleman not reporting the spill to the agency within the required one-hour timeframe.
The crash occurred when the tanker truck driver swerved to avoid a cat.
