Steelhead Americas, a company based in Portland, is proposing to build and operate a wind farm featuring 45 turbines near Kamiak Butte, north of Pullman. The land is leased from private landowners close to a National Natural Landmark. The proposal has sparked significant public opposition, with the organization Save the Palouse presenting a petition with over 3,500 signatures against the project to the Whitman County Commissioners. Following this, the commissioners enacted a six-month moratorium on new wind turbines to allow for updates to county regulations regarding wind farms. As of now, Steelhead Americas has not submitted an application for its project, known as Harvest Hills.

The company has announced a “moderated information session” scheduled for Tuesday, February 4th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Lewis Alumni Centre at Washington State University. Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP via a provided link.

Steelhead Americas aims to gather community input to shape a project that aligns with local values and needs for a sustainable future. This upcoming session follows previous public meetings held by the company last July, where they addressed questions and showcased visual simulations of the proposed wind farm.
