There are several contested races for seats up for a vote this year in rural Whitman County.
Tekoa has multiple contested races, including a primary election for a city council position. Incumbent Cheri Currier is running against Reid Smith and Adam Matthews in the August primary. Additionally, incumbent Shelly Ausmus is facing a challenge from Dylan Barker, while Councilman David Tysz is being contested by Brad Chandler.
In Malden, the open mayoral seat is being sought by Diana Totten and Larry Frick. The mayoral race in Rosalia includes incumbent Lee Root and Councilman John Goyke. Furthermore, there is a contested city council seat in Rosalia with Chris Bowen and John Berggren competing for the position.
Last week marked the candidate filing period for the upcoming elections in Washington.
