Flooding caused by beavers on a Whitman County farm has been addressed with assistance from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
According to the agency, a pair of beavers settled in a stream on John Brown’s farm in January of the previous year. The beavers constructed six dams along 2000 feet of the stream, resulting in flooded pastureland, damage to trees, and potential risks to a historic barn on the property.
In response, Fish and Wildlife collaborated with The Lands Council to implement a flexible pond leveler through one of the dams. This device is designed to manage the water level behind the dam, aiming to reduce pond water levels and alleviate flooding.
