A kitchen fire occurred early Sunday morning at an apartment in Pullman’s Military Hill area, causing damage to the unit.
Firefighters from the City of Pullman responded to the incident on NW Wayne Street at the Glendimer Three apartment complex. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, which originated in the kitchen, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. A post from the Pullman Firefighters’ Union indicated that the first engine was staffed with three firefighters, which is one more than the standard minimum. This additional personnel facilitated a quicker response and improved coordination during the fire attack.
The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking on the stove, which resulted in significant damage to the kitchen. The occupant of the apartment was able to escape safely. However, the unit has been declared uninhabitable, and arrangements are being made for the resident to relocate to another apartment within the complex.
City of Pullman Fire Marshal Darren Jones emphasized the importance of never leaving cooking unattended and urged residents to “stand by your pan.” He also highlighted the need for regular checks of smoke detector batteries.
