Several local fire departments responded to a rescue operation for an injured hiker in the Snake River Canyon in Whitman County over the weekend.

Asotin County Fire District 1 reported that the rescue call was received around 3:00 PM on Saturday. Volunteers from Asotin County, Whitman County Fire District 14 from Colton-Uniontown, the City of Asotin Fire Department, and the Lewiston Fire Department participated in the response effort. The hiker was located in a steep canyon approximately 8 miles downriver from Clarkston in Whitman County, with a possible broken bone and unable to walk. Emergency crews assisted in carrying the individual out of the canyon to an Asotin County Rescue ATV. He was subsequently transported to the hospital by Lewiston Ambulance with injuries that were not life-threatening.
