Fire crews have responded to several new fires caused by lightning in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest in North Central Idaho. Over the past week, thunderstorms have ignited 23 fires. Quick action from firefighters has helped extinguish or control these blazes, which have burned approximately 14 acres in the Grangeville Interagency Dispatch Zone. Collaboration among agencies, including the Idaho Department of Lands, Nez Perce Tribe, Bureau of Land Management, and the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protection Association, has been crucial in managing the situation. The forest service has indicated that more thunderstorms are expected through the weekend.
