The City of Moscow has announced the temporary closure of Hordemann Pond at Kiwanis Park due to the presence of blue-green algae, which may pose health risks to humans and animals.

As a safety measure, all recreational activities at the pond, including fishing, have been suspended until further updates are provided.

Exposure to the algae can occur through ingestion of contaminated water, skin contact with affected water, or inhalation of spray or mist from the water.

Symptoms associated with exposure may include abdominal pain, sore throat, headache, vomiting, nausea, dry cough, and in more severe cases, pneumonia.

The city will continue to monitor the water quality at the park and will reopen the pond when it is safe to do so.
