City of Pullman Administrator Mike Urban is returning to work after an independent investigation cleared him of allegations that led to his placement on paid leave three weeks ago. The investigation, commissioned by the city, found no wrongdoing on Urban’s part. The allegations against him stemmed from a Washington State Patrol investigation related to former police chief Jake Opgenorth, who faced claims of rape from his former mistress.

Investigators found that three screenshots of text messages attributed to Urban did not originate from him. The city plans to send these findings to the state patrol to amend its report. It was also clarified that Urban did not have a relationship with Opgenorth’s ex-mistress and that Opgenorth likely used Urban’s name to conceal her contact information.

Mayor Francis Benjamin expressed support for Urban, highlighting his principled character and the negative impact the allegations had on him and his family. Urban shared his relief at the outcome, acknowledging the support he received during the ordeal and expressing his intention to move forward as he returns to work.

In related news, the Whitman County Prosecutor has decided not to pursue rape charges against Opgenorth, citing insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. Opgenorth resigned from his position as chief of police, and Aaron Breshears has been promoted to the role of interim chief.
