The construction of the new junction for U.S. Highway 195 and State Route 26 in Colfax will not begin this summer as originally planned. The Washington State Department of Transportation project is experiencing delays due to geotechnical soil sampling, which has pushed the timeline back by a few months. The project, estimated at 13 million dollars, is now expected to go out to bid in October, with work anticipated to start late this year.
This project aims to replace the existing bridges over the Palouse River in Colfax and has been in planning for several years. It includes the construction of a roundabout at the junction of the highways near the Chevron gas station, as well as a new bridge over the river. The current bridge used for traffic heading south on US195 from SR26 will be demolished.
The entire project is projected to take about two years to complete.
