The pedestrian bridge over the South Fork of the Palouse River in downtown Pullman is set to be repositioned on its footings on Tuesday.
The bridge has been closed since it was dislodged from its abutments during the flooding in February. Designed to float during high water events, this incident marked the first time the bridge’s design had been tested since its installation approximately 20 years ago.
The City of Pullman has contracted Wasankari Construction from Moscow to assist in lifting the bridge back into place. Preparations are underway on Monday for this operation. As a result, the Pine Street Plaza and the Riverwalk on the north side of the bridge will be closed on Tuesday.
The plaza is expected to reopen on Wednesday. After the bridge is repositioned, it will undergo a final inspection, and rock armoring work is scheduled to take place under the span next week. Once these final steps are completed, the Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge may reopen, with city officials aiming for it to be accessible again by the end of next month.
