The Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge over the South Fork of the Palouse River in downtown Pullman has reopened after being reset.
The bridge was closed due to a flood in February that caused it to float off its abutments. Originally designed to float to the side of the river during high water conditions, this design was first tested last winter.
Wasankari Construction, based in Moscow, was responsible for resetting the 15-ton, 65-foot-long bridge on Tuesday, utilizing cribs, airbags, steel beams, and hand-cranked come-alongs.
The bridge will undergo one final brief closure for additional repair work, while the design issue preventing the span from floating correctly remains unaddressed and is scheduled for future resolution.
