The Port of Whitman County has completed a land trade aimed at expanding its industrial park located at the airport south of Colfax. The agreement is projected to save taxpayers approximately two million dollars. The port had previously exhausted its industrial property at the Business Air Center and required a bridge over Rebel Flat Creek to access undeveloped port property at the airport. The construction of this bridge was estimated to cost around two million dollars.
To avoid this expense, Port staff negotiated a land swap with Matark Corporation, a locally owned company. This exchange involves trading ten acres of port land that is not easily accessible for ten acres of land from Matark that is accessible at the Business Air Center. This agreement will enable the port to proceed with plans to develop additional industrial space at the Port of Whitman Business Air Center.
