The Port of Whitman County has been awarded a federal grant of $500,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for cleanup efforts at the site designated for a new clinic in St. John. This grant will facilitate the remediation of the old gas station property located at Front and Main Streets. The port previously announced plans to acquire the property to lease it to Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics in Colfax, which intends to construct and manage a new clinic at this location. The existing WHMC clinic in St. John has been reported to be experiencing overcrowding.
