There will not be an appointment to fill the vacancy on the Pullman City Council as the primary election for the position is currently taking place.

Councilman Trymaine Gaither resigned earlier this month after serving in the role for approximately one year. Gaither’s resignation is attributed to family circumstances that require relocation outside of Pullman for his son to access specialized services. Gaither had not filed for candidacy for the upcoming election this fall, where seven other candidates have entered the race for the seat and are competing in the August primary election.

During a recent meeting, the Pullman City Council discussed the vacancy. Mayor Francis Benjamin suggested that the council should leave the seat unfilled, as appointing a candidate could be perceived as an endorsement. The council reached a consensus to leave the position vacant, allowing voters to decide who will fill the seat in November.
